This course will improve knowledge and skills in providing expert evidence to the Family Law courts. Lectures given by highly experienced clinicians will address specialist topics within the family law area of practice. This is a knowledge base considered essential for any psychiatrist practicing within this field. The focus of the experiential part of this course is on giving evidence and handling cross- examination and will consist of role play with barristers. Sessions will include: Private law disputes over contact and residence Diversity and cultural issues Assessing sexual abuse allegations Complex trauma and other relevant maltreatment literature Assessing mental capacity, fitness to plead, capacity to instruct a solicitor and risk issues Factitious and Induced Illness Workshop with barristers on giving evidence in court
