PassPACES Oct Wed to Sat

MRCP PACES Clinical Course (4 days) London Our PACES courses are held at the Professional Education Centres at Guy's Campus and University College Hospital in London. PACES Course timetable Courses now commence at 8.00am and finish at 5.00pm to permit an extra hour of teaching on each of the first three days. Each of these days comprises four one hour and 45-minute clinical sessions and commences with a demonstration of clinical examination techniques relevant to that day's clinical sessions. Clinical stations involve structured bedside teaching with an emphasis on technique and presentation. Teaching takes place in small groups of 1 lecturer to 6 candidates. History Taking and Communication Skills stations have 1 lecturer to 4 candidates allowing a full 20 minutes to be allocated to each candidate. Mock Examination On Day four each candidate will be given a Mock Examination. This will comprise a 40-minute Clinical assessment on a 1 to 1 basis, which will cover the four main clinical stations (Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Abdomen and Neurology), followed by individual feedback. They will also have a 20-minute Communication Skills and a 20-minute History Taking Mock examination session. In addition to these sessions, candidates will also have the opportunity to observe different scenarios encountered by the three other members of their group. Station 5 (Integrated Clinical Assessment) Station 5 Teaching based on Survey of Past Candidates: In 2009 the Royal College of Physicians (UK) introduced changes to the format of Station 5 of the PACES examination. Consequently, PassPACES courses include a Station 5 Mock Examination with the format and timing of the MRCP examination. We also continue to provide clinical teaching in Dermatology, Endocrinology, Ophthalmology, and Rheumatology. In order to ensure that our Station 5 teaching and Mock Examination accurately reflect the scenarios faced by candidates during the PACES examination, PassPACES lecturers carried out a survey of over 300 candidates who attended previous PassPACES courses. We are grateful to these past candidates for giving us detailed accounts of their experiences in Station 5 of the PACES examination upon which we will base our teaching. Mock Examination for MRCPI candidates For candidates sitting the MRCPI, we provide a Mock Examination in the MRCPI format, with a Long Case and Short Cases in place of the PACES format Mock Examination.
