Introduction from your host

My home offers a peaceful retreat with the energy of London just moments away. The garden is a secluded haven, filled with roses, jasmine, lavender, and rosemary, where apple trees and blackberry bushes attract birds and squirrels. The conservatory is a tranquil spot to sit among tomatoes, passion flowers and scented geraniums, watching the weather pass or stargazing at night.

Highbury is home to a fantastic community, where neighbours look out for one another. The area is rich in culture, with local libraries, art galleries, and diverse places of worship. Green spaces like Clissold Park and the Woodberry Wetlands bring nature to your doorstep in this quietly vibrant corner of London.

Our home provides good access to:

Moorfields Eye Hospital - 30 minutes on the train from Finsbury Park
The Whittington Hospital - 30 minutes via bus and/or tube

I really have nothing to complain about. My first contact with Mark was great – he was so helpful and managed to find me accommodation for my clerkship at the very last minute. Roxane was incredibly kind and welcomed me into her home for a whole month. For me, this was a completely new and first-time experience: a foreign country, being away for so long, speaking English every day, and meeting so many new people. But Roxane and Nick made me feel so, so welcome that it honestly felt like home. They are such amazing people with such warm and kind hearts. What I loved the most – and what I’m trying to integrate more into my own life now – is living in the moment. With them, it felt as if time just stood still. Plus, there was a little journey into the past: as a longtime book lover, I was delighted to discover so many wonderful old books in their home. I’m truly grateful to have had this experience :)

My two weeks in Roxane's house are something I will never forget, not only because of the room and the bathroom, but also because of Roxane's humane qualities and warm personality. She considered my food preferences, and she was always willing to start a conversation and help me with anything. In addition, during the first week, I was really sick with my stomach, and she did everything she could to make me feel healthy and safe. On the other hand, I met her partner, Nick, who is also a fascinating person and a good chatter. Without doubt, next time I go to London, I will stay with Roxane again.

Absolutely lovely. I almost don't want to say how good it was because I don't want too many other people to know about it. My host was kind, friendly and very welcoming, going above and beyond what would normally be expected to be provided, even from Doctor in the House. My room was spacious and with an ensuite shower room, all having only recently been built at the top of the house. I had a very comfortable and warm bed. Also, an extremely quiet part of London but within a less than 10 minute walk to the nearest Tube station. Nothing was too much trouble for Roxane. I would have loved to have stayed longer.
